David Alexandre Winter, born in Amsterdam in 1943, became famous with "Oh Lady Mary", a legendary hit that sold over two million copies in France (over three million in Europe).
From 1960 onwards, he toured England, Turkey, and Israel with his guitar before becoming a radio disc jockey in the Netherlands. Under the pseudonym John van Doorn, he signed with Philips ("Last Night," "Marian") and sang with the band Daddy's Act. Discovered by Léo Missir, he signed with Riviera and moved to Paris.
In 1969, under the name David Alexandre Winter, he released "Oh Lady Mary," his biggest hit, followed by several EPs. In 1970, he represented Luxembourg at Eurovision with "Je suis tombé du ciel" (I Fell from the Sky), but finished last, which jeopardized his career. He nevertheless continued to compose, notably "Rien que nous" (1971), a duet with Seda Aznavour.
In 1972, he married model Catherine Fefeu, with whom he had Mickaël (1972) and Ophélie Winter (1974). After their separation, he moved to the United States and started a new family, while continuing to write and compose.
His career continued with several albums: the compilation "Nostalgie" (2004), a live album "Rock'n Roll" recorded in Sydney, and "Couleurs Winter" (2009). In 2010, he joined the "Âge tendre, la tournée des idoles" tour alongside Sheila, Michèle Torr, and Isabelle Aubret, reviving the magic of the 60s to 80s.
