Aleksand was born in Le Lorrain, on the Atlantic coast of Martinique, a town he left when he came of age. From a very young age, he was drawn to the rhythms, traditional songs, and dances of bèlè, thanks to the folk group "Les Flamboyants." At the age of 7, during a Christmas Eve celebration, he accompanied his uncles' songs on the bèlè drum for the first time.
A self-taught musician, he trained under masters of the bèlè culture in northern Martinique (Joël and Georges Lesalles, Paul Rastocle). At the age of 12, he made his first drum and formed his first group, Les Cheiks, which performed at parties and dances in the north of the island. After winning several competitions, the group merged with La Tipica de Trinité (Ronald Rubinel).
In the late 1970s, he joined the Ballet de la Martinique as first drummer, then was recruited in 1980 by flautist Eugène Mona, with whom he remained until 1984, before leaving for military service.
After completing his military service, he settled in Toulouse. Following significant encounters with percussionists Pascal Mouéza and Edmony Krater, he returned to music. He then joined the group Matouba (led by pianist Franck Souriant), became the percussionist for singer Pierre Vassiliu on the tour for the album "Parler aux Anges," and participated in other groups such as the Mannisch Boys (blues).
