My Starmania

It was April 10, 1979, at the Palais des Congrès at Porte Maillot in Paris. It was the opening night of Starmania. And, at the precise moment of the first musical notes that evening, no one, absolutely no one, could have guessed that Starmania would completely establish the musical comedy genre in France and that so many generations would share the joy of humming its unforgettable musical hits.
And one of the unknown singers in this show was going to steal the show in the role of the robot waitress.
A meeting, more than four decades later, with the ever-delightful Fabienne Thibeault, now a Parisian by adoption, who will be present at the Bibliothèques idéales to revive one of the greatest French musical events of all time…
I imagine

I was born in 1952, the daughter of peasant parents who had come to settle in the city in the early fifties.
My father, who had become a bricklayer and had never been to school, absolutely wanted his children to get an education.
I was good at school, honestly, and the rest of the time I sang in my family where everyone loved to sing, we were simple people, Catholic, but not pious, who all aspired to a better life.
The idea of a career in show business never crossed my mind. We arrive in the seventies, the era when...
I want to remake the world, jeans, long hair, Dylan… I’m at university and to earn some money, I sing in cafes, at small festivals… It was in one of them that a programmer spotted me and offered me to make an album, then another, then a third.
However, I live my life, I move forward, I have absolutely no ambition to become a full-time singer, not at all, especially since I had just graduated with a degree in education and had a job waiting for me. And that's how Luc Plamondon ended up offering me this role in
Starmania. Back then, with my long hair and wire-rimmed glasses, I just casually observed. I observed everything, constantly. It's a bit like what the robot waitress in Starmania does, isn't it? (laughs)
